Recently I have built my own PVR box using MythTV. Without going into details, it is a open source version of TiVo, you only need a regular PC to install the software on. More details about MythTV can be found here - http://www.mythtv.org

Besides the regular Tivo-like options to schedule recording, watch LiveTV, listen to your music, you can also configure your phone.

My biggest surprise was to see that this is a SIP phone and it defaults to a .. VoiceXML page served off your own web server. It means that you can host your own voice applications, either a complex ones or a simple "Welcome, please leave a message" application.

It is nice to see that you can have your own PBX running in your living room. All you need is a PC and half a day to install Linux and MythTV.
